DuBois 11's Girls punch ticket to states!

The DuBois 11-year-old All-Star softball team finally opened play over the weekend and swept Cam-Boro East in a best-of-3 series for the Section 1 championship at the McLane Little League complex in Edinboro. The two teams opened section play Friday evening with DuBois pulling out a close 2-1 victory. The teams were granted permission to play two games Saturday if necessary, but DuBois only needed one and put the Section 1 crown away with a 12-2 victory in five innings in a contest played in extreme heat for an 11 a.m. start. DuBois’ sweep earned it a trip to the state tournament that begins this weekend at the West Point Little League complex in Greensburg. DuBois is scheduled to open play Friday in the double-elimination tournament.

DuBois Boys 11's headed to states!

Chandler Ho

After a rocky start Sunday, the DuBois 11-year-old All-Star baseball team used a five-run third inning to rally to beat Harborcreek, 6-5, to capture the Section 1 title at Cranberry Area High School and earn a trip to the state tournament.  Harborcreek, the only team DuBois hadn’t played yet in the event, won the pregame coin flip and elected to be the visitors. The unusual move paid off as Harborcreek scored three runs on three hits and three errors — DuBois’ first miscues of the tourney — to grab a quick 3-0 lead. Needing a spark, DuBois got it from Chandler Ho, who blasted a two-run home run the other way to right field in the bottom of the third after Christian Kirk drew a leadoff walk. Ho’s homer made it 5-3 and jump-started a five-run inning that gave DuBois a 6-5 lead. Ho was 3-for-3 with a double, homer, two RBIs and two runs scored on the day. The duo of Ho and Brycen Dinkfelt made that slim one-run lead stand up over the final three innings to send DuBois to the state tournament, which starts Friday in Plymouth.
